“Is it Possible to Rebuild a House with No Piling?”
Based on conventional construction methods, it is only possible on land sites with very good soil conditions. However, with the introduction of LGS, even sites with moderate soil conditions can avoid costly piling works.
We achieve this in several ways. One way is to replace costly piling with footings. This is commonly adopted when building in hybrid mode(i.e LGS alongside RC or Structural Steel)
Another is to build a raft foundation. This is possible with LGS because it is 5X lighter than RC and 2X lighter than structural steel and it can be used to build the entire house.
In certain cases where the existing structure is very sturdy or needs to be retained, we will propose targeted demolition (See below schematic) to remove existing heavy elements, then replace it with our ultra-lightweight structural system. This enables the re-use of existing structures to reduce waste and speed up works.

By using a lighter foundation, there is less disturbance and damage to neighbouring properties and it is more environmentally friendly.
We have adopted both methods in several of our past projects in Singapore and have won a productivity award during BCA Awards 2017.
